Cheaper Home Batteries scheme success.

Our Director, Chris O’Keefe, spoke to Nine about the success of the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries scheme — a program that is already transforming the way Australians use energy.

The take-up of rooftop solar has been a national triumph. Millions of households are generating their own electricity, cutting bills, and reducing reliance on the grid. But until recently, storing that energy for when it’s most needed has been out of reach for many families.

That is why the Cheaper Home Batteries scheme is such a breakthrough. By making batteries more affordable, it allows households to capture their solar power during the day and use it in the evening, when demand and prices are highest. The result is lower energy costs, greater independence, and stronger resilience in the face of rising prices.

As Minister Chris Bowen has said, batteries “supercharge” the benefits of rooftop solar. And as the Clean Energy Council has highlighted, the scheme also strengthens Australia’s overall energy transition by easing pressure on the grid and supporting more renewable generation.

The response from households has been clear: Australians are ready to embrace this technology. The scheme’s early success shows the demand is strong — and growing.
