Octopus Australia's $900M Blind Creek Solar and Battery Project Reaches Financial Close

300 MW solar farm and a 243 MW / 486 MWh battery, backed by major investors including Hostplus, Rest Super, APG, Westpac and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation reaches financial close.

The Australian Financial Review has reported that Octopus Investments Australia has reached financial close on the $900 million Blind Creek Solar and Battery Project in Bungendore, NSW. The project is one of the largest hybrid solar-storage assets in the national grid and marks an important step forward for renewable investment after a quieter period earlier in the year.

Blind Creek brings together a 300 MW solar farm and a 243 MW / 486 MWh battery, backed by major investors including Hostplus, Rest Super, APG, Westpac and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. A long-term offtake agreement will supply firmed electricity through the evening peak.

The AFR notes that hybrid projects like Blind Creek are becoming increasingly important as the grid transitions. Solar provides low-cost generation during the day, while battery storage delivers the flexibility needed to meet demand and support reliability as more coal exits the system.

The project’s timing is significant. It follows a period where few large-scale renewable projects reached financial close, and Blind Creek is a clear sign that confidence is returning — especially for developments that combine generation with storage.

Octopus continues to build a strong pipeline of hybrid and storage-backed projects, with Blind Creek adding to the more than $1.8 billion in projects reaching financial close for the company this year.

Emerald House is proud to support clients delivering major energy infrastructure projects across Australia.
